A “moment” from each month I spent in New York City. Sometimes tasty, but always tRuthful.
Month 3: July 2012
I’m shadowing Bon Appetit Magazine’s food editor in the Times Square test kitchen for an afternoon, doing an “informational interview.” Part of my ongoing attempt to “make it.” Out of nowhere, my long time food-writer idol and Food Network star Andrew Knowlton comes storming in, shouting “Where are the Szechuan peppercorns?!” I nervously pilfer through the spice cabinet with him, not daring to ask questions (the first of which would be “what is a Szechuan peppercorn?”). His hand lands on the correct spice jar, and he storms out just a quickly. I tuck a small piece of my heart into the now-empty slot in the cabinet, and beam.
